Today Justin and Donald met to discuss the trade agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

It was an important political moment and a moment both men would have been well aware would be captured on film.

They say handshakes are key to greetings, so what did this one say?

Body language expert Judi James told Express.co.uk: “Trudeau used proximity to prevent Trump from doing one of his ‘shake and yank’ specials,”

He also used something known as a “pow pat” to assert himself, Judi said: “He power-patted Trump on the arm closest to the cameras to imply strength.

“Here he actually clasps the president’s bicep to suggest he’s not intimidated by the older alpha POTUS but it’s Trump using the eye contact, head tilt and pursed-lip smile that suggests paternal warmth and recognition.”

The expert claims the friendly exterior belies a “more complex relationship as world leaders.”

Judi explained: “When Trump first took office both Trudeau and Macron appeared to try to out-do the president with their countering techniques to his power-shake greeting rituals and although Macron picked the arm-wrestling, stare-out option Trudeau chose a subtler and more charming-looking approach.
