The BBC broadcaster has previously described his home in Primrose Hill, North London, as “the friendliest place I have ever lived”, but it appears his “white, middle-class neighbours” may not be quite what he bargained for when he moved to the enclave following a near-fatal stroke. Mr Marr has decried the recreational drug-taking he says is rife in the luxury homes that surround his property. When discussing his neighbours’ narcotics use, he links London’s violent epidemic, notably gang crime, with “wealthy people taking drugs”.
Primrose Hill has frequently been synonymous with hedonism, with the likes of Jude Law, Sadie Frost, Kate Moss and Noel Gallagher previously residing in the locale.
Now, Mr Marr is joined by Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and Channel 4 presenter Jon Snow.
Speaking at a lecture series staged by St Mary’s Church, in Primrose Hill on Wednesday, Mr Marr said: “In Primrose Hill we have some of the richest people living in their nice houses and going to their lovely cafes, and in the other direction there are young kids in gangs who are killing each other.”
