Roy Hudd, 83, has transformed from being “morbidly obese” at 20 stone to a slim 12 stone after undergoing surgery. The comedian, who hosted The News Huddlines on BBC Radio 2 for 26 years, was instructed by his doctor to lose weight promptly due to his ill health. After heeding this warning, he decided to get gastric sleeve surgery “for health reasons”. Roy explained: “I’d put on so much weight it was ridiculous. I was up to 20st and I’d got diabetes so I really needed to slim down for health reasons.
“But my doctor looked me in the eye and said, ‘Oi, you’re never going to diet that lot off are you?’ And I said, ‘Probably not, doc'."(sic)
When the TV and radio personality realised dieting would be ineffective, he opted to get a gastric sleeve fitted.
Roy added to the Daily Mirror: “So he told me I should have a ‘gastric sleeve’ fitted and I thought... ‘I’m not ready to snuff it yet’ so I had it done and it worked a treat.”
According to the NHS: “A sleeve gastrectomy is where a large part of the stomach is removed so it's much smaller than it was before.
“This means you can't eat as much as you could before surgery and you'll feel full sooner.”
Roy is happy with the results of the surgery, which allows him to tuck into his favourite treats including seafood, while also curbing his appetite.
