Andrew Hooper shot 51-year-old Cheryl in front of her teenage daughter as she sat in her Range Rover outside her home after he suspected her of having an affair.

The 46-year-old had followed her to her new house in Newport, Shropshire, after fitting a tracking device to her car, a court heard.

She was shot from a range of about 5ft but Hooper denied wanting to kill her and said he only intended to frighten her into getting back together with him.

However, Judge Mark Wall QC said: “This was not a last-minute decision to kill arrived at outside Cheryl’s house, but rather a planned execution.”

He said Cheryl’s 14-year-old daughter Georgia witnessed the shooting on January 26, 2018, and had described Hooper’s look of “murderous intent”.

The judge added: “You did not stop to help your wife, nor did you offer support or comfort to Georgia. You fled the scene, leaving others to cope with the horrific aftermath of what you had done.”

Hooper, who appeared in the dock in a wheelchair, showed no emotion as he was convicted of murder.

He suffered severe facial injuries and lost the ability to speak after turning his shotgun on himself at his 400-acre farm near Newport following the shooting.
