Ms Widdecombe, who served as a Tory MP for 23 years, has blamed outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May for failing to deliver Brexit during her short tenure. She said it was a “scandal” that Britain has not left the EU on time, and blamed the failure on the “sheer incompetence” of Mrs May. The recently elected Brexit Party MEP said Mrs May “completely mishandled the process” and went on to describe her as “incredibly weak” and a “really bad prime minister”.
Ms Widdecombe said the main issue with her leadership lay in the fact she was a Remainer, and so “her heart was not in it”.
But she considers that current Tory leadership frontrunner Boris Johnson would do a better job at ensuring Britain leaves the UK.
Speaking to Express.co.uk she said: “It is terribly clear we have to come out on October 31, with or without a deal - we have to come out.”
This is something Mr Johnson has pledged to do.
