The Men Behaving Badly and Doc Martin actor, 57, said he thought that sitcom Warren was ditched after just one series because the BBC didn’t like the elderly and working-class demographic of the audience.

He made the comment in Cornwall, where he is filming the next series of Doc Martin on ITV.

Warren went out on BBC One earlier this year to mixed reviews.

But the first episode drew 3.8 million viewers, half a million more than Alan Partridge’s comeback show which followed it.
