Queen Elizabeth II hosted US President Donald Trump on a historic three-day state visit to the UK earlier this month. The highlight for many royal watchers was the sumptuous state banquet, held at Buckingham Palace, which saw an array of Royal Family members and British dignitaries welcome the US contingent in glamorous style. “Pod Save the Queen” is hosted by Ann Gripper, and regularly features the Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers.
In this week’s latest episode, Daily Mirror Style Director Amber Graafland heard from author Sali Hughes, whose book “Our Rainbow Queen” chronicles the amazing array of fashion choices the Queen has made over her 67-year reign so far.
The pair spoke about the recent state visit and how the Queen, alongside Camilla, Kate and Princess Anne, notably chose to wear white to receive their guests at the Buckingham Palace state banquet.
Ms Graafland asked: “Is it just to remain completely neutral?
“The statement is, this isn’t about us, we are your hosts. Almost like a blank canvas?”

Ms Hughes replied: “There is that, for sure, you’re absolutely right, they are trying to remain neutral.
“That would have been a very conscious decision.
“But also, at state banquets she will wear a sash and medals.
“A pale colour allows those to stand out.
