The downpours will produce the equivalent of a month's rain in 60 hours, sparking flood warnings. There will also be fears of a muddy Glastonbury as the festival in Somerset gets underway this week. Wind, rain, lightning and hail is expected to batter some places and it will be changeable between tomorrow and Thursday.
People are being urged to keep a close eye on weather warnings over the coming days, particularly as difficult driving conditions are expected during the course of today.
However, soaring temperatures are expected from tomorrow as a 2,000-mile wide air plume from Spain and the Sahara sweeps across Europe.
Forecasters suggest temperatures could even rise to 105F on the Continent. The mercury regularly reaches above 90F on Phuket.
Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge said: "Warm air from north Africa will bring an extensive heatwave to large parts of western and central Europe, with highs into the 100Fs in Germany and France.
"The UK will see highs build through the week after 82F on Monday and Tuesday.
