The Duchess of Sussex’s traditional Welsh gold ring has been transformed to include more sparkle, swapping the thick band for a thinner diamond-studded micropavé band. The sudden change came as a surprise to many royal fans after Meghan spoke lovingly about the ring during an interview to announce her engagement to Prince Harry, 34, in November 2017. Royal author and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward said an iconic piece of royal jewellery should not be treated as an accessory that can be transformed to fit into fashion trends.
She said: “I find it a bit odd Meghan would want to alter a ring that her husband had especially designed for her.
“A royal engagement ring is a piece of history not a bit of jewellery to be updated when it looks old fashioned.”
When she stepped out for Trooping the Colour earlier this month, new mum Meghan was sporting the band with added bling - but fans did not notice until this week when close-up photos were compared to previous snaps of the ring.
The ring designed by Harry includes two diamonds from his late mother’s collection and a larger stone from the African country where he and Meghan enjoyed their third date.
