Strictly star Ben Cohen speaks out on being ‘clinically deaf’ amid new discovery

Ben Cohen, 40, who is in a relationship with professional dancer Kristina Rihanoff, 41, competed on Strictly Come Dancing despite not being able to hear the music properly. The rugby star, who has 46 per cent hearing, has now praised Huawei’s new app StorySign, designed to translate selected children’s books into sign language. He exclusively told Express.co.uk: “StorySign is something that’s close to my heart and being clinically deaf myself, I wish that I had access to such technology when I was growing up. I have had tinnitus as long as I can remember so it’s easier to live with unlike other people who develop tinnitus later on in life.”

Tinnitus is the name for hearing noises that aren’t caused by an outside source, as stated by the NHS.

Ben went on to say he hasn’t let his health condition stop what he’s wanted to do in life, despite the “horrible combination” of being hard of hearing and having tinnitus.

Ben added: “Modern technology has help immensely with ways to cope with the difficulties of hearing and every day challenges.

“I love the way Huawei are using the Story Sign apps on their phones to make it fun and help children to read and interact.”

Ben added he wished there was such a device to help with his hearing when he was younger.
