Hand luggage requires careful thought when it comes to packing, especially if that’s all passengers are taking with them. If all your holiday items are packed into a carry on bag it’s important they’ll all make it past security. It could prove a frustrating start to a trip away to have something confiscated. Some items which are prohibited could come as a surprise to travellers, however.

One unlikely item which is banned from going in hand luggage is hair dye.

This is due to the presence of chemical peroxide in the dye; it comes under forbidden ‘Chemicals and Toxic Substances.’

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) states: “You cannot take any of these items as hand luggage or in the hold: oxidisers and organic peroxides, including bleach.”

A spokesperson from luggage website MyBaggage.com said: “Ensuring everything you pack at home is allowed onto the plane is an easy way to prevent a stressful experience once you reach the airport.
