Meghan and Harry’s refurbishment will cost a staggering £2.4million to the taxpayer according to annual figures released from the royal accounts. In light of those figures, Graham Smith, head of anti-monarchy campaign group, Republic insisted that the money spent on Frogmore was “an abuse of public money”. Moreover, Mr Smith also insisted that if Harry and Meghan continue to spend money in this manner, it will damage public opinion towards them in the long run.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Smith said: “Essentially it’s an abuse of public money.

“It’s a private home being paid for by the taxpayer.

“We wouldn’t allow MP to get away with it, so we shouldn’t let royals to get away with it.

“Generally they tolerate the royals but if they spend money like this it will cause them harm over the long-term.”
