The Deputy Chairman of the influential anti-EU European Research Group (ERG) announced that his faction would not vote in any way to “revive” Mrs May’s withdrawal agreement. Speaking on ITV’s Peston, Mr Francois also insisted that the ERG would vote against the deal regardless of whether Boris Johnson or Jeremy Hunt brought it back to Parliament. Mr Francois added: “The ERG’s voting strength in the Commons is around 80-100 strong.
“There is absolutely no way that we will vote for any attempt to revive the withdrawal agreement.”
The Tory MP’s claims come as Mr Johnson has hardened his position to take the UK out of the EU by October 31.
Speaking this week, Mr Johnson’s said that the UK will leave on October 31 regardless of the circumstances “come what may”.
