Princess Diana is still celebrated globally for her sense of style and the extraordinary fashion moments she created with some of the world’s most eminent designers. Her association with Gianni Versace began when the princess was photographed for the cover of Harper's Bazaar in a stunning ice-blue Atelier Versace gown in 1991. Diana would have another iconic fashion moment when she was photographed by Mario Testino in stunning black-and-white photographs that were published by Vanity Fair on July 1 1997.
The July article, published just before the deaths of both Versace and Diana that summer, had some words from Versace about the princess which are now heartbreakingly poignant with hindsight.
Versace said: “There is a kind of serenity.
“I had a fitting with her last week for new suits and clothing for spring, and she is so serene.
“It is a moment in her life, I think, when she’s found herself – the way she wants to live.”
