US vs Iran war: " rel="tag">Donald 'too scared' to start Tehran conflict – shock claim

Sheikh Naim Qassem, deputy leader of the Iran-backed ally, claimed that US President Donald Trump would be out of his depth if he decided to invade the country. In an interview with a prominent Lebanese newspaper, Qassem also said that the war would not just be between Tehran and Washington, but would be fought on many fronts. His words come amid Iran’s own warning that the downing of the US drone should send a message to the US to leave their borders alone.

Sheikh Qassem’s claims, meanwhile, come just a day after Trump claimed any war between Iran and the US would be swift – before adding that he would like to avoid any military confrontation.

The deputy Hezbollah leader said: “At the regional level, we see as unlikely an American war against Iran for many reasons, the most important of them being firstly that Iran is a strong state with important defensive capabilities.

“[Trump] does not benefit from a war that he can start but whose results he cannot control and which might begin with Iran but may be accompanied by the region being set on fire.”

Experts say Hezbollah would certainly get involved on Iran’s side if conflict broke out between the two countries.

Combined with Iran's military capability – it boasts over 500,000 active personnel – the landscape advantage that Iran would possess may prove too much for the US.
