The US is reportedly under-equipped to deal with any political warfare that Russia continues to wage on the White House, according to a new white paper produced by the Pentagon. The detailed report shows that Putin is already using propaganda to sway public opinion worldwide. It also warns of the growing relationship between Russia and China – an alliance that could team up to become the joint world superpower.
The report Russian Strategic Intentions outlines the full extent to which Moscow is attempting to unsettle major Western powers in an attempt to grow its own status.
By subtly taking aim at Western institutions Russia can undermine public trust and trigger a degree of anarchy in the US, according to Natalia Arno, president of the anti-Putin Free Russia Foundation.
She added: “The attacks may seem more subtle and craftier, but they are every bit as destructive as governments are influenced, laws are changed, legal decisions are undermined, law enforcement is thwarted and military intervention is disguised.”
The main problem identified by the study is Russia’s alleged undermining of democracy.
Aside from military involvement in Ukraine and Crimea, Moscow’s involvement comes through particular, surgical methods of influence.

US European Command official John Werchan writes in the report: “These activities include threatening other states militarily, or compromising their societies, economies, and governments by employing a range of means and methods to include propaganda, disinformation, and cultural, religious, and energy coercion.”
