Last Friday, Avengers Endgame re-released in cinemas with a few minutes of bonus content after the end credits. The marketing move was to help get the Marvel epic that extra boost it needed at the box office to beat Avatar and become the highest-grossing movie of all time. But while the re-release did bring in around $7.5 million worldwide to make Avengers Endgame’s total box office $2,761,318,161, it’s still short by $26.6 million of matching Avatar’s $2,787,965,087. And according to box office insiders known to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s now impossible for Avengers Endgame to break Avatar’s record anytime soon.
Of course, Avengers Endgame sequel Spider-Man Far From Home is released in the UK tomorrow.
This could encourage revisits to the previous just as was the case with Captain Marvel when Endgame hit cinemas.
Nevertheless, as the analysts confirmed, even this won’t be enough to beat Avatar in the future.
Perhaps another re-release in a year or two will flock fans back to see the Marvel epic on the big screen.
