In 2007 speculation had been growing that William was planning to propose to his long-term girlfriend on her 25th birthday. When the day came, Kate was faced with “hundreds” of paparazzi and television cameramen waiting outside her Chelsea flat. They then followed her to her car, desperate to get a snap of the future wife of the prince.
A royal spokesman said: “Prince William is very unhappy at the paparazzi harassment of his girlfriend.
“He wants more than anything for it to stop.”
In the documentary ‘Prince William at Thirty’, uploaded to YouTube in June 2012, royal experts discussed the impact on Kate – and William’s furious reaction.
The documentary’s narrator said: “On Kate’s 25th birthday she had to run the gauntlet of cameras packed onto the street outside her flat.”

Royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah added: “You would see hundreds of paparazzi and press photographers outside her home which is very difficult for anyone trying to make their way.
“It was almost as if whatever she did – whether she went to work or didn’t want to go to work – she would be scrutinised and almost hounded.”
