An optical illusion posted on Twitter is confusing users as they try to figure out what they are looking at. People are doubting their own eyes after a colourful picture was shared online by David Novice, a computer and information science engineer. Called the confetti illusion, the picture appeared to show a number of squares on a colourful stripy background. At first glance, the shapes are yellow, orange, green and light violet.

Posting on Twitter, David Novick said: “A four-color confetti illusion with shapes that appear to be yellow, orange, green, and light violet.”

However, he soon left many scratching their heads as he explained this is not the case.

“In fact, all have exactly the same yellow-green base color (RGB 251,255,139),” he added.

David also gave Twitter users a tip and said shrinking the image would increase the effect.
