Writing in his Daily Mail column, Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan said he raised the notion with the Brexit Party leader at the Cricket World Cup Final at Lord’s. Mr Morgan claimed Mr Farage invited him for “a sherbet”. He wrote: “There are rumours that Farage is being lined up to replace Sir Kim Darroch as UK Ambassador to the US, though I myself am 8-1 with the bookies.”
The leading Brexiteer is reported to have replied: “I have bigger plans, you should do it, Piers.”
Mr Morgan wrote the asked: ”You seriously think I should be a diplomat?”
The South East England MEP apparently “exploded with laughter” and stated: “You’re right, that does sound ridiculous”.
There is a vacancy in the position following the resignation of Sir Kim Darroch.
