Sarah Ferguson – affectionately known as Fergie – and Prince Andrew married in their spectacular July 1986 royal wedding. The parents of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie would go on to divorce in 1996, although their closeness ever since keeps fuelling rumours of a rekindled royal romance. However, it seems the Duchess of York has thought about how she will be remembered in royal history, as she told a biographer how she would like her daughter Beatrice to help her emulate Queen Victoria.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward, in her 1995 book “Sarah: HRH the Duchess of York”, takes a look at Fergies’ historical leanings.
Ms Seward writes: “Sarah has read Queen Victoria’s diaries which she found ‘fascinating’.”
The Duchess of York told the author: “I hope my Beatrice edits my diaries one day, as Queen Victoria’s did.
She added: “They might be worth a fortune!”
