BBC Breakfast’s weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, 57, told her 159,000 followers there is an Instagram page in her name, but explained it has nothing to do with her.
Setting the record straight, she said: “There is a FAKE @instagram account portraying to be me - using pictures from this account. Please be aware I AM NOT ON @instagram xxx.”
Carol then retweeted a tweet from a fan page urging people to report the fake account.
Many of the star’s fans flocked to her page to comment.
One user wrote: “I really don’t know why people do this for its pointless pretending to be someone there not.”(sic)
A second added: “Gutted it isn’t you,” while a third penned: “Good work guys. Hope you're well Carol.”
Thankfully for Carol, the social media website took down the false account.
Carol shared a screen grab of confirmation that the page had been deleted as she thanked her fans for their support.
She wrote: “HUGE thanks to everyone who reported the fake @instagram account in my name... and to @instagram for taking it down xxx.”
“So pleased for you, hope they deal with the culprit,” one fan wrote.
