WARNING: This article contains spoilers for The Handmaid's Tale, season three, episode 11.
Last night’s episode of The Handmaid’s Tale saw a dramatic turn of events, filled with intense plotting and violent murder.
The latest episode of the Hulu drama saw the Waterfords embark on a road trip to bring the Nichole back after Fred Waterford’s (played by Joseph Fiennes) plans to get her back through political means were exposed.
The trip saw Serena Joy (played by Yvonne Strahovski) and Fred make their way to Canada but in a dramatic turn of events, Fred was arrested for war crimes.
However, while the arrest took place Serena was lead away in another car, leaving fans to speculate the ambush was plotted by Serena.
The arrest came as a shock to fans as over the course of the trip, Serena had softened to Fred and the couple seemed to be making progress.
Fans will remember the pair had spent the night at a Gilead family cabin where they discussed their pasts and where they would be if they never embarked on the dangerous mission of resistance.
The episode saw Fred undergo a character development as he even admitted he never realised how difficult Serena’s life would become.
So why would Serena plot for his arrest when the pair seemed to be back on track?
Although this has not been confirmed just yet, the episode does leave a few clues that suggest Serena will not be joining him in the cells.
Firstly, although Serena was lead away by Canadian soldiers, she was never actually arrested and given her rights as we saw in Fred’s case and seemed noticeably calmer.
