Game of Thrones may have ended but HBO are already working on prequel series. The first untitled show is set thousands of years before the events of the hit TV show. It will see Westeros’ “descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.” While that’s already filming, a second one is close to getting a pilot order greenlit with HBO.
According to Deadline, this other prequel series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the beginning of the end for House Targaryen.
If that rings any bells for George RR Martin fans, that’s because it’s the setting of his latest book, a first of two volumes fictional history of House Targaryen.
It’s called Fire and Blood: A History of the Targaryen Kings from Aegon the Conqueror to Aegon III.
With this in mind, presumably, this new Game of Thrones spin-off will focus on Aegon the Conqueror becoming the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, the Iron Throne’s construction and his early rule with sister queens Visenya and Rhaenys.
Interestingly, Martin teased that this would be the setting of the third Game of Thrones series almost a year ago.
