JOHN BERCOW was left powerless as Conservative MPs stormed out of the House of Commons as MPs voted to delay the Brexit vote under the Letwin Amendment.

The Speaker was left stunned as MPs left their seats as SNP’s Joanna Cherry began speaking. MPs voted 322 to 306 for the delay which forced Prime Minister Boris Johnson to request an extension from the EU. Tories walked out of Commons in disgust as some said: “Leave them to it”.

Speaking in Commons, Mr Bercow said: “If members who are leaving the chamber, I understand the disappointment of the honourable, learned lady.

“But I cannot compel members to remain.

“I can’t take anybody hostage.

“I do not have the power to incarcerate.
