Coronation Street Audrey Roberts (played by Sue Nicholls) has been missing from the cobbles in recent weeks. Now, ITV soap star Sue has revealed she was written out of scenes after falling over and breaking her collarbone. The 75-year-old had an operation as a result of the incident which took place in June.

The Coronation Street stalwart, who has appeared on the soap since 1979, has been noticeably absent from the Street.

Explaining the nasty accident, Sue told the Mirror she fell over in the dark and broke her collarbone.

The incident took place not long after she received her Outstanding Achievement Award at The British Soap Awards.

Sue explained: “I live in a tiny flat and [my husband] Mark goes to bed much earlier than me.

“I was creeping around in the dark after taking my face off at about 11 o’clock and sat on the side of the bed.”

“But I missed the bed and fell over,” she continued. 

The actress admitted she felt she had “let people down” due to her absence.

She remarked: “I had to have an operation, be written out of some scenes and take time off – which I hate doing as I don’t like letting people down. But everyone was so lovely.
