Avengers: Endgame CRUSHED by #StarWars Rise of Skywalker after dramatic final ...

According to NBC, the new Star Wars obliterated the previous record set by Avengers: Endgame, selling 45 per cent more tickets in the first hour of presales.

The presales launched in the UK just before the final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was unveiled during ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

After the trailer aired, ending with the message that tickets were now on sale, fans naturally rushed online to book theirs well in advance of the movie's release in December.

Meanwhile, tickets went on sale at 9am this morning in the UK.

If beating Avengers: Endgame so spectacularly in the first hour of presales is anything to go by, the upcoming Episode 9 is set to be huge.

Endgame shattered records when it was released back in April, becoming the first film in history to exceed $1 billion (£775 billion) in its first weekend.

The Marvel hit earned more than $2.8 million (£2.1 million) at the box office globally, with 69 per cent coming from overseas.

Meanwhile, fans were sent into overdrive following the premiere of the final trailer for The Rise of Skywalker last night.

Among the abundance of hints at the storyline was a clip which appeared to confirm Rey (Daisy Ridley) is to be trained by Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) following Luke’s (Mark Hammill) death in The Last Jedi.
