On the same day, German-Canadian entrepreneur Tobias Lütke outbid Mr Musk’s donation by one dollar to plant 1,000,001 trees. But the SpaceX CEO has faced criticism for backing plans to plant more trees to tackle climate change. The tree-planting campaign cites a 2017 study published by the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) that suggested reforestation would be the best way to keep the Earth's temperature from rising more than 2C.
However, there isn’t enough space for all the trees needed, according to Business Insider.
A 2017 paper said that the amount of trees needed to keep global warming below 2C would be so large that most land that isn't forest would vanish.
That means there wouldn’t be any space for pasture or crops no more pastures to grow food.
This loss could pose a grave threat to global food security.
