Kenneth Matcham, 60, was "catapulted" from his vehicle as he tried to avoid hitting a car that had crashed into another bus. Fifteen people were injured in the incident, which saw the grandfather-of-seven's 358 bus smash through a garden wall. Residents who saw the crash claim Mr Matcham's actions saved countless lives. A 69-year-old, who gave his name as Mr Sharp, said: "The driver was catapulted from the 358. He saved everyone on the bus. He swerved to miss, but lost his life in the process."
Mr Sharp's 72-year-old wife told how she called the emergency services after seeing people "lying in the road" and said: "It was like a war zone."
The crash - which also involved an R11 bus and a black Skoda Fabia - took place on Sevenoaks Road in Orpington, south-east London. Neighbours said the car had been travelling down The Avenue
