The third run of The Crown will focus on the 1964 to 1976 as Olivia Colman takes over as Queen Elizabeth II after Claire Foy stepped down from the role. As the cast changes, one former star has opened up on the Queen sex scene cut from season one.
Vanessa Kirby starred as Princess Margaret in the first two seasons and has fondly reflected on her time on the show sharing some rather saucy secrets.
She revealed: “There was a sex scene between Elizabeth and Philip in the first season.
“I think they were in South Africa filming, and they were like, ‘I just don’t think anyone wants to see the Queen having sex.’”
Fans will remember how close the Queen and Prince Phillip were on their tour of Africa in season one but perhaps bosses thought a racy scene was a step too far?

It wasn’t just the Queen and Prince Phillip’s relationship which was almost explored in closer detail.
Speaking on the Love Stories podcast, Vanessa revealed there were plans for steamy Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon scenes too.
“There was one (sex scene) written in The Crown, in episode seven of (season two),” she explained.
“We had long discussions about what it should be, and it just became clear that to titillate was not the aim.
