When the Queen dies there is a huge amount of protocol to go through.

Queen Elizabeth II is one of the most well-known and well-known characters of British public life.

Understandably, the members of the Royal Family are the first to be told the news, along with important members of staff who will put a number of processes into place.

How will the public find out the Queen has died?

The Queen’s Private Secretary will be the first person to make the news known to media.

He will issue an announcement to the Press Associate and the BBC using a radio alert transmission known as 'RATS’.

Two forms of notice will be issued, one digital version on the royal website and another on a plaque outside the palace, a nod to tradition.
