Doctor Who will be returning to BBC One a lot sooner than first thought but according to show runner Chris Chibnall, there could be some changes in store. He will be leading the hit sci-fi drama for another year - his second - which will also see Jodie Whittaker return as the eponymous hero.
In season 11, Whovians watched in wonder as the Doctor and her TARDIS team took on mysterious aliens and historical conundrums.
While that is the very backbone of Doctor Who, it seems Chibnall thinks there’s still scope for change and variety.
The Broadchurch writer said to Radio Times in an exclusive interview: “There is a difference between the first year of a Doctor and the second.
“There are different types of stories you want to tell, different rhythms and structures.

“This series is action-packed,” Chibnall explained.
The writer continued: “It’s probably a step up from last year. It’s got scale, it’s got fun.
“It’s got some old monsters, it’s got some new monsters.
“It’s an incredible variety of stories and locations.”
