A leaflet distributed by the Liberal Democrats in Watford, north London, featured a quote attributed to “Express”, which read: “Boris Johnson really is the British Donald Trump”. But one voter who received the campaign leaflet through her letterbox questioned the accuracy of the quote and sought to verify what she viewed as a highly biased headline. She was left outraged when she discovered the original article was taken “completely out of context” in order to smear the Prime Minister and the Tories.
Teacher Melanie de Miguel was stunned over the quote featuring prominently on the Lib Dem election campaign leaflet.
It appeared under the title “What the papers say…” and sits next to other headlines either slamming Mr Johnson or pointing towards a Lib Dem comeback in the polls.
Ms Miguel said the Express quote which suggested the British Prime Minister and Donald Trump were one and the same immediately struck her as “fake news”.
She told Express.co.uk: “I looked at the leaflet this morning and I thought it looked like fake news - it stuck out to me.

“Did the Express really say that? That's biased and pushing an agenda.”
As a result, Ms Miguel attempted to source the original article, searching the full quote in the Express website and search engines.
When nothing came up, the Watford local contacted the Lib Dems directly, requesting to see a copy of the original article.
She said the party eventually sent her a link to the article, but she was shocked the story was “taken completely out of context”.
