Harry and his brother Prince William were known to be very close in their youth, and they both lived on the Kensington Palace estate with their wives up until recently. William even revealed in a 2017 interview in Finland, how “over the last few years” Harry had frequently “scrounged” off the Duke of Cambridge’s food. Discussing his brother’s recent engagement to his now-wife Meghan Markle, William jokingly added how he hoped Harry would “stay out of my fridge” once he was married.
The younger brother was thought to be very close with Kate Middleton, William’s wife, too – Newsweek even reported that he once referred to her as the “sister he never had”.
In Angela Levin’s 2018 biography, ‘Harry: Conversations with the Prince’, the biographer explained how Harry immediately had a positive response to the birth of his first nephew, George, in 2013.
Ms Levin wrote: “The 28 year-old prince was talking about his newborn nephew a few days later while on a visit to a photographic exhibition in London documenting the work of Sentebale [one of Harry’s charities].
“He said he had to cuddle the baby prince who was ‘crying his eyes out’ when they met, how it was ‘fantastic to have another addition to the family’, and that ‘I only hope my brother knows how expensive my babysitting charges are’.”
He was then asked what his role as uncle would involve.

Harry replied: “To make sure he has a good upbringing, keep him out of harm’s way and to make sure he has fun. The rest I’ll leave to the parents.”
The Duke of Sussex continued to have a positive relationship with his nephew as he grew up and was regarded by the public as a ‘fun uncle’, due to his reputation for mischief.
However, this reputation did cause Harry some embarrassment when Michelle and Barack Obama visited the royals in 2016.
Mrs Obama explained in an interview at the Invictus Games launch: “I have to say that the most precious thing – if you haven’t already fallen in love with [Harry] – is to see him with his nephew.
