Steve McDonald (played by Simon Gregson) will be one of the Coronation Street stalwarts embroiled in the cataclysmic storyline, which fans of the ITV soap can watch unravel later this year. Upcoming scenes will see the taxi driver discover his wife Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) had a one night stand with Paula Martin (Stirling Gallacher), but what takes place on the cobbles in the coming months will be something much more devastating. As several families are caught up in one of the darkest plots to ever play out, Liz McDonald (Beverly Callard) will make her exit from Weatherfield as she tries to be the hero of the hour. However, what exactly happens and who’s lives will be changed forever?
After an explosive Christmas on the cobbles, which saw Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) shot dead and Shona Ramsey (Julia Goudling) left a coma, the drama isn’t going to stop anytime soon.
Last year’s big storyline saw the Underworld Factory roof collapse, beginning Gary Windass’ (Mike North) reign of terror as the new super villain.

Executive Producer Iain MacLeod has teased details of what viewers can expect and it seems Steve’s relationship with mother Liz will be one which will be beyond repair.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the soap boss explained what happens around Spring time will have “the most far-reaching impact of any story we’ve done since I’ve been on the show".
Revealing more, Iain said: “Something horrifically difficult and challenging will happen that draws in 3-4 different clans on the Street and forces them to deal with the hardest thing anyone would ever had to deal with.”
Further details state the tragedy will kick off around March, playing out in the latter months and right through the
