Military think tank RUSI's Michael Clarke warned the number of British hostages in Iraq could possibly multiple in the wake of Qassem Soleimani’s assassination. He explained the Iranian regime have a lot they can do to retaliate. BBC Politics Live host Adam Fleming asked: “Do you think those dual nationals like Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe held in Iranian jails, are they kind of like a human shield? Are they going to be pawns in this?”
Speaking on Politics Live, Mr Clarke said: “They’re political hostages for sure.
“Part of the viciousness of the Iranian regime, they take political hostages and believe me if this isn’t resolved soon they will probably take more.
“The Zaghari-Ratcliffe problem will possibly be multiplied and again I would like to be wrong in saying that but the Iranians press lots of buttons at once.
“They’ve got a lot in front of them that they could do and they’ll try to do it in a fairly graduated way but they’re not nice people.
