A passport is what everyone must pack if they want to escape the UK. However - how powerful is a British passport compared to others around the globe? The most powerful passports in the world have now been ranked for 2020 by the Henley Passport Index.
The Passport Index is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.
The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information, and enhanced by ongoing research by the Henley & Partners Research Department.
So which country has the most powerful passport of them all?
For 2020, Japan has the strongest passport, with a score of 191.

This means Japanese citizens can visit a whopping 191 countries without obtaining a prior visa.
This is the third consecutive year Japan has secured the top spot on the index.
Singapore was in joint first place in 2019 but the island city-state has slipped to second place this year with a score of 190.
Asia continued to dominate the index in third place, too, with South Korea boasting a score of 189.
South Korea previously came in second place in 2019 alongside Finland and Germany.
Germany also fell to third place this year alongside South Korea while Finland fell to fourth place with Italy which was previously in third place. Both have a score of 188.
In joint fifth place were Denmark, Luxembourg and Spain with a score of 187. All three were down from last year’s position by one place.sonos sonos One (Gen 2) - Voice Controlled Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa Built-in - Black read more
