BBC Breakfast star Mike Bushell, 54, danced with Katya Jones, 30, on the show before they were voted off ahead of the Blackpool special. Strictly Come Dancing winner Stacey Dooley, 32, has now revealed the advice she gave to the former contestant in an interview on Kevin Clifton’s podcast The Kevin Clifton show.

“I know Mike, I do BBC Breakfast and bla bla bla,” she began.

“Funnily enough, I was up in Manchester doing [BBC] Breakfast for something else when he was announced [for Strictly].

“At the time, we [her and Kevin] were still the winners, anyway, they were saying, ‘Have you got any words of wisdom for Mike?’

“I said, ‘Just enjoy it’ I think where people get it wrong, is when they take it too seriously and start to believe they’re competing in the world championships.”

Recalling the advice she gave him, she added: “I said, ‘Try your best and put the hours in and don’t take it for granted, because of course, it’s a privilege to be on the show, but just keep it in perspective’ and that’s what I think he did.”

Stacey is currently the host on the Strictly Come Dancing nationwide tour.
