EastEnders star Shona McGarty splits from fiancé after 18-month engagement

Shona McGarty, 28, has broken up with her fiancé Ryan Harris 18 months after they got engaged. The pair were together for five years after starting off as friends and becoming closer when they helped each other to overcome past heartbreak.

The EastEnders star opened up about her split from the electrician, which took place last year, in a candid interview and admitted “it just wasn’t meant to be”.

Shona told the Daily Star: "We just grew apart. Nothing bad happened, it was all very amicable. We were together for a long time, but it just wasn't meant to be.”

Although the actress said she was in a “good place” as a single woman, she insisted she “isn’t ready to date anyone else”.

She divulged: "I think it's really important to have some time by yourself.

The soap favourite went on to praise EastEnders as “a great place to grow up”.

Shona has played Whitney Dean in the BBC series since 2008.

She added: “And EastEnders has been a great place to grow up.
