Charlie (played by Derek Thompson) has been doing his best to care for Lisa “Duffy” Duffin (Cathy Shipton) at their home in recent scenes on Casualty, after his wife was diagnosed with dementia last year. Viewers of the BBC medial drama have witnessed the reality of such a condition, with the Holby City nurse unwilling to move his wife into a care home as his love for her clouded his judgement. His decision has consequences in upcoming scenes as the long-serving character goes missing in the middle of a snow storm, but does this mean she will die?
It was announced back in October actress Cathy, 62, would be bidding farewell to her character after playing the role for over three decades.
Therefore, it was only a matter of time before Duffy made her exit from the show, with the drama beginning at the start of tonight’s episode when Charlie discovers his wife has left their home.
With the snow conditions outside making the search even more prevalent, he has no idea his beloved believes she is still a midwife and heading into work.
Tragedy soon strikes as she collapses in the snow and when her husband discovers her lifeless body on the ground, he does his best to warm her up, but is he too late?

In need of urgent assistance, Duffy is assessed by the ambulance crew, who discover she is barely hanging on to life.
Viewers will have to wait and see if the beloved character suffers a heartbreaking exit as she passes away, but actress Cathy has teased emotional scenes.
Speaking with What’s On TV, the Casualty star said: “This last episode encompasses and reminds the audience who Duffy is and was.
“I wanted her to be a nurse right up until the last minute. It looks stunning, and the effort from every department to make this the best it could be and honour the character.”
