Fans of the Philip Pullman novels, which the show based is on, are looking forward to a new series of His Dark Materials. A second season is expected to air on BBC One this winter. In the series Amir Wilson plays Will Parry, a schoolboy who has a bigger role than he realises.
At the end of the first series we see Will discovering a portal to another world, which is the home of main character Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen).
He seems to play a significant role as his father, a colonel who accidentally travelled to Lyra’s world, becomes a renowned scholar.
In the first series he looks after his mother Elaine (Nina Sosanya) who suffers with mental health difficulties after her husband went missing.
The series flits between his world and Lyra’s and the two are yet to meet each other in the programme.

Wilson has spoken to Radio Times and has teased what could happen in the next series.
His crucial character was actually introduced earlier than expected, as he does not appear until the second of Pullman’s books.
He told the publication: “They wanted to have a bit of Will’s backstory that you didn’t get much of in the book.”
He said it was hard to keep the secret he would be appearing earlier than anyone could predict, and it was a relief when the news came out.
