Taking to Twitter, one viewer sent Dan a message poking fun at the mishap.

"Daniel Walker......... turn that alarm off @mrdanwalker," they giggled, using his full name to show they meant business.

It wasn't long before he responded, apologising for the blunder and confessed his confusion as to how it happened.

"Sorry," he began.

"No idea how, or why, I set an alarm for 6.15am seeing as I knew I’d be live on #BBCBreakfast."

But fans were most forgiving of the BBC presenter, marking it as a simple mistake that "we've all done".

"You are allowed off these are strange times," one quipped.

Another viewer sympathised: "We’ve all done that... always happens at the most awkward moment."

"Wishful thinking you would be asleep that late," another giggled.
