Meet Eysteinn Sigurdarson, who plays Sigtryggr in #TheLastKingdom

THE LAST KINGDOM is back for season 4 on and fans have spotted a new character in the series. Who is Eysteinn Sigurðarson?

The Last Kingdom has returned to for a fourth series and fans have welcomed back Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Many fan-favourites have come back for the fourth season, including Emily Cox as Brida and Timothy Innes as King Edward. Fans have also spotted some new faces in the series, including Eysteinn Sigurðarson, who plays Sigtryggr.

Who is Eysteinn Sigurðarson? WARNING: This story contains spoilers for The Last Kingdom

Eysteinn Sigurðarson is an actor from Iceland who comes into the fourth season of The Last Kingdom in episode seven.

He stars in a total of four episodes as the character Sigtryggr - a Viking warlord who appears to be Uhtred's son-in-law.

Recogniseable from the large scar across his left eye, he is a strong warrior like his father-in-law and in Norse history he is the great-grandson of Ivar the Boneless.

He is a member of an Irish clan and he was expelled from his home in Dublin in the year 902.

His character in the TV series heading to Wales, where he saves Brida from slavery after she was taken away by the Welsh King's men.

The Last Kingdom season 5: Will Uhtred claim back Bebbanburg?

The series is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, and his character appears in two of Cornwell's books.

In the series, he travels to Wales to save Uhtred's childhood friend, Brida, who was raised as a Saxon just like him.

Earlier on in the series, during a battle between the Danes lead by Cnut (Magnus Brunn), Mercia and Winchester, Brida runs off to find Cnut and Uhtred fighting.

Brida overhears Uhtred revealing it was Cnut who ordered for her previous husband Ragnar (Tobias Santelmann) to be killed, and she ends up killing Cnut, full of anger.

She asks for Uhtred to kill her so she can die an honourable death on the battlefield and go to Valhalla, as she has been surrounded by Welsh soldiers.

She begs for Uhtred to take her life as she does not want to succumb to a life of slavery, but Uhtred does not have the guts to kill his childhood friend.
