Prince Philip, 98, will celebrate his 99th birthday next month and has not been seen in public since before Christmas. The Duke of Edinburgh has rarely pitched up to royal events since retiring at 96 but has made an exception for recent royal weddings.
The Duke was at the Queen’s side for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding in May 2018 and when Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018.
The last royal event attended by Prince Philip was the marriage of the Queen’s distant royal relative Lady Gabriella Windsor at St George’s Chapel last May.
The only time the Duke has been seen in public since was when he was photographed leaving hospital in London before Christmas.
Royal weddings seem to be one of the few Royal Family gatherings Prince Philip still steps out for and he was expected to attend Princess Beatrice’s nuptials today.

Beatrice, 31, was due to tie the knot with property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the Chapel Royal on May 29 but the event was called off due to coronavirus.
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo have postponed their big day for the foreseeable future as they wait for the coronavirus pandemic to subside.
The ceremony was to take place at St James’s Palace and the Queen was due to host the reception in the gardens at Buckingham Palace.
The Duke will likely spare a thought for his granddaughter on what was meant to be her wedding day.
