Nicola, 37, was confirmed to be the sixth contestant taking part in Strictly Come Dancing when she appeared on BBC Breakfast to announce the news earlier this week. It was explained the professional boxer would make history by being one half of the BBC dance show’s first same-sex coupling after so much discussion if the landmark would ever be reached. With so many female professional dancers completing the 2020 line-up, it seems Katya Jones, 31, is very interested in partnering with the sportswoman when the competition kicks off next month.
Katya has been a member of the professional cast since she joined the programme back in 2016 alongside her ex-husband, Neil Jones, 38.
The trained dancer has had four male celebrity partners since then, only winning once with former Holby City actor, Joe McFadden, 44, in 2017.
Last year, she was coupled with BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell, 54, and they performed some rather memorable routines.
Having only secured 8th place last season, she will be looking to get her hands on the Glitterball Trophy again in the coming months after previously speaking out about being a part of a same-sex couple.
However, the Russian choreographer’s hopes could come true as she might be partnered with her first-ever female counterpart now Nicola has been confirmed.

A source explained: “Katya has been telling everyone on the show how keen she is to be paired with Nicola.
“She’s a huge believer in girl power and thinks they’d make a great team and be a hit with the viewers at home.”
The TV insider added the professional would be able to “think outside the box” when it comes to thinking about choreography for dancers of the same sex.
They also stated to The Sun other female professionals are looking to secure Nicola as their partner as it is a historic moment for the programme.
