PRINCE WILLIAM set aside football rivalry to deliver a poignant speech in which he thanked all those players who helped the country at the height of the coronavirus crisis.

Prince William delivered a heartfelt message dedicated to football players, supporters and teams as fans of the sport gear up for the return of Premier League today. The Duke of Cambridge, who is also the President of the Football Association (FA), expressed his gratitude towards those who donated and helped the NHS, key workers and all those people and organisations in needs as coronavirus cases were peaking in the UK. 


In a brief message shared on his and Kate's official social media channels, Prince William hailed these efforts as a "true testament" to the spirit of the sport. 

The Duke said: "As our national game, football is a source of togetherness and community spirit for millions. 

"Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen football come together to support its communities. 

"Rivalries have been set aside to help those most in need.
