What happened to Melissa and John on MAFS?

The fifth season of Married At First Sight Australia saw 53-year-old Melissa Walsh marry 54-year-old John Robertson.

Melissa was a journalist from Mornington Peninsula, whereas John was a business owner from Melbourne.

The couple went on a honeymoon to New Zealand after their big day, and they agreed to marry each other at the end of the experiment.

Fans thought the couple was going to last, but sadly they separated after the show came to an end.

John was already familiar with the dynamics of the show as he had appeared on season four alongside Debbie Brosnan. But sadly things did not work out for them and they split up.

Fans fell in love with Melissa and John as they were known for avoiding the drama and handled the series in a more mature way compared to some of the other couples.

Viewers were thrilled when they walked down the aisle at the end of the experiment, but they separated shortly after season five ended.

In a lengthy joint statement on Instagram, they said it had been a difficult decision to make, and they still had respect for each other.

Melissa went on to say: "As you can all see, John @john_robertson_1962 and I have had an amazing experience together over the past six months.

"You have followed our journey and saw our caring for each other grow over the experiment. We genuinely adored spending time together and getting to know each other.

"We hit it off straight away and felt an immediate connection and mutual respect for each other."
