The former ITN News at Ten host, 81, has reportedly moved out of their £2.6million home and set up in a new bachelor pad two miles away. The couple have been married for 34 years.
Sir Trevor and his wife Jo began dating after meeting at ITN and tied the knot in 1986.
The couple share one son together; Jack, 31.
It is understood that the break up is "amicable" and that the former couple "are still speaking" following their split.
According to reports, the TV anchor wanted a "fresh start" and to pursue work opportunities.

A source said: “It is sad but Trevor and Jo realised they weren’t making one another happy any more, and that it was time to move on with their lives.
“Trevor is still very much in demand work-wise, and wanted a fresh start. He feels young and still has a twinkle in his eye.
"He and Josephine have a long history so obviously they are still speaking, and everything is amicable.
“Trevor has moved into his own apartment and friends are joking it is his bachelor pad."
