Meghan Markle, 39, stepped down as a senior royal with Prince Harry, 36, to move to LA with their son Archie Harrison and become financially independent. The Duchess is said to have "her eyes on the US presidency", according to Mr Scobie. It comes as Betfair slashed odds on the likelihood of Meghan running for President in 2024 from 66/1 to 20/1.

Speaking to True Royalty TV, Mr Scobie said: "She has her eyes set on the US presidency.

"Meghan is the embodiment of the American dream.

"One day we may see Meghan become president."

Buckingham Palace has appeared to distance itself from comments made by the Duke of Sussex as Harry urged people in the US to "reject hate speech" and vote in the presidential elections.

Harry has faced a backlash amid claims of political interference and suggestions he is telling people to vote against Republican nominee President Donald .

Asked about the Harry and Meghan intervention, Mr replied: “I’m not a fan of hers. And she probably has heard that. But I wish a lot of luck to Harry, cause he’s going to need it.”

The Palace highlighted the fact that the Duke is no longer a working royal, and said his remarks were made in a "personal capacity".

A Palace spokesman said: "We would not comment.

"The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family and any comments he makes are made in a personal capacity."
