Christian conspiracy theorists and doomsday preachers are stoking fears about the supposed forthcoming end of the world. Scripture relating to the end times prophesies natural cataclysms and destruction tied to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. And although the Bible does not stipulate when this will happen, some evangelists believe Armageddon could soon be at hand.
According to 2 Peter 3, the end of the world will be marked by heavenly fire raining upon the Earth.
The prophetic scripture reads: "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
"Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming."
More passages about the fiery destruction of Earth can be found in the Book of Revelation, which holds the final chapters of the New Testament.

Revelation 8:5-7, for instance, reads: "Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.
"Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.
"The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth.
"A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up."
